| Machine Description | ||
| The Blanchard No. 42-84 is a heavy-duty vertical rotary surface grinder specifically engineered for high-volume material removal and precision surface grinding of large ferrous components. Equipped with a massive 84″ (2,134 mm) electromagnetic rotary chuck and a vertical spindle configuration, this machine is ideally suited for grinding large plates, machine bases, castings, fabrications, and heavy industrial components.
The machine offers a maximum swing of 101″ (2,565 mm) and provides 24″ (610 mm) of clearance beneath the grinding wheel, allowing the machining of large and tall workpieces. Its 42″ (1,067 mm) grinding wheel delivers excellent stock removal rates while maintaining the characteristic cross-hatch surface finish associated with Blanchard grinding. Power is supplied by a robust 100 HP (74.6 kW) main spindle motor, providing the torque and rigidity required for continuous heavy-duty grinding operations. The vertical spindle design combined with the rotating magnetic chuck ensures efficient machining, reduced cycle times, and consistent flatness across large workpieces. This machine has been upgraded with a rebuilt elevation nut and screw along with a rebuilt motor and pinion gear, improving machine reliability and extending service life. These major rebuilt components contribute to smooth axis movement, precise grinding head positioning, and dependable long-term performance. Renowned throughout the metalworking industry, the Blanchard No. 42-84 remains one of the most respected large-capacity rotary surface grinders, making it an excellent solution for steel mills, heavy equipment manufacturers, mold shops, power generation facilities, mining, aerospace, and general industrial machining applications. |
